This course will result in each student creating two sculptural mugs. We will begin with a mug visualization exercise to imagine what our ideal mugs will look like, and a discussion on the ergonomics of mugs. Instructor will demonstrate different techniques to handbuild the body of the mug (pinch, coil, slab), as well as a variety of surface design techniques and strategies to make the mug sculptural. These techniques will include stamping, carving, stenciling, painting with liquid clay, pressing clay into lace, and modeling to add decorative elements.
