Fantasical Creatures: 3-Day Handbuilding workshop
All skill levels are welcome in this program.
Unleash your creativity and explore the world of clay sculpture by handbuilding fantastical
creatures! This workshop invites participants to create their own mystical being in a seated or
squatted position, giving students an opportunity to learn figure building/construction in an
approachable way. Whether it’s a mythical creature, an animal, a hybrid beast, or an abstract
figure, this workshop allows you to push the boundaries of clay and sculpture to create
something truly personal and imaginative.
In this workshop, you will begin by building your creature solid, forming the basic shape and
features. After the solid form is built, you will slice your sculptures apart and then hollow out
your sculpture using loop tools. This step will ensure even drying and a lightweight final piece.
You will then put your piece back together and add details, bringing your unique creature to life.
You will have the option to bisque fire your pieces as is or continue working on them after this
class. Because this is a 3 day workshop, we will not be glazing our pieces. Please have
sketches/rough ideas of your creature ready prior to class
Because this is a 3-day workshop, we will not be glazing our pieces. Shipping will be available at market cost of USPS for students needing to ship their fired bisque ware.
Students must bring: loop tools of different sizes, a needle tool, a wire tool, rubber ribs, a serrated rib, and any sculpting tools you’d like.
Materials fee: $25
Minimum age: 11. 15 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
