Alex Gerst, Marketing & Events Coordinator

Alex joined Tryon Arts & Crafts School in February, 2022. She brings a wealth of experience in and passion for education and nonprofit development.

From 2015 to 2020, Alex co-chaired Tuesday School, a nonprofit school for pre-school aged children in Tryon. Since 2016, Alex has served as volunteer coordinator and steering committee member of the Tryon Downtown Development Association’s annual Beer Fest. From 2016 to 2018, Alex shared her talents in events and culinary arts through her work as co-owner and operator of Whole Table, LLC, a small catering business partnering with nonprofits and sustainable agriculture.

Suffice it to say, since moving to Tryon in 2015, Alex has grown to appreciate the Polk County community and the many avenues through which citizens may get involved and effect change.

Alex’s other past experiences include childcare provider, U.S. Peace Corps environmental volunteer, wilderness field guide, and German language instructor. In her studio practice, Alex crafts “electric wood geodes”, wooden tables and benches using pyrography and Lichtenberg electrical current patterning.

Alex holds a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Environmental Education and Linguistics and Minor in German Studies from Appalachian State University.
