CYNTHIA & EDWINA BRINGLE

 

Cynthia Bringle and Edwina Bringle are renowned as advanced craft practitioners, educators, and mentors to countless influential figures in heritage and contemporary craft. Both Bringles are lifetime members of the Southern Highland Craft Guild.

Cynthia claims such accolades as the North Carolina Award for Fine Art, an Honorary Doctorate in Fine Arts at Memphis College of Art, and the designation of North Carolina Living Treasure by UNC Wilmington. Her work is included in the collections of the Mint Museum, Lowe Museum, High Museum, and Fuller Craft Museum.

Edwina is an emerita art faculty member of UNC Charlotte, where she taught for 24 years. Her work is featured in the collections of the North Carolina Museum of History, Greenville Museum of Art, Gregg Museum of Art, and the Mint Museum.

The Bringles are the subject of a new documentary film, Bringle, a Tale of Two Makers, that will be screened at the Tryon Theatre as part of the Tryon International Film Festival (TRIFF) on Sunday, October 8, at 4:30 pm. The fiscal agent for the film is Toe River Arts, a nonprofit serving primarily Mitchell and Yancey Counties. The filmmaker is E. Vincent Martinez.
