This new adventure is presented by Tryon Arts & Crafts School’s Clay Studio Committee. All ticket proceeds will benefit the Clay Studio capital campaign for a new expanded kiln room next to the studio alongside of the main building.

 

Embark on a journey of inspiration and creativity with Tryon Arts & Crafts School as we venture into the heart of North Carolina’s craft community. Join us for a unique opportunity to explore the rich tradition of pottery and ceramics in the picturesque Penland/Spruce Pine area, where some of the finest craftspeople in the country call home. Attendees will enjoy private studio, gallery, and school tours, and have the opportunity both to meet artists and to purchase their original work.

Julie Wiggins

 

Julie Wiggins makes porcelain pots for the home in Bakersville, NC. She is a flower lover, beauty hunter, explorer of things that make your heart sing.

Teresa Pietsch creates one-of-a-kind, functional pottery decorated with images from the natural world around her. She uses several processes to decorate each piece including a mono-print slip transfer method.

Penland School

of Craft

Tour of world-renowned Penland School of Craft, beginning at the prestigious Penland Gallery. Explore Penland’s historic campus nestled in the mountains and learn about its century-old tradition of fostering creativity and innovation in the craft world.

Bandana Pottery

 

Michael Hunt and Naomi Daglish live and work in the mountains of NC and run Bandana Pottery.  Using many local materials, they collaborate in making utilitarian pottery, figurative sculptures and large jars.

Courtney Martin is a studio potter in the mountains of NC. Her pots are made from NC clay, fired in her wood kiln, and meant for daily use.

Itinerary

8:00 am – Meet at Tryon Arts & Crafts School, Rear Parking Lot

(turn off of Harmon Field Road at tennis courts)

8:30 am – Departure (no late arrivals)

10:30 am – Julie Wiggins

11:45 am – Teresa Pietsch

12:30 pm – Penland School of Craft

1:15 pm – Lunch, Penland Gallery

2:13 pm – Bandana Pottery

3:30 pm – Courtney Martin

6:30 pm – Return
