Description
Class dates: October 24, 31, November 7, 14, 21, and 28.
The course will cover all the basic skills of blacksmithing with each session building upon the previous ones. At the end of the course, the students will have made the fundamental tools needed by a blacksmith.
We will start by covering safety, fire management, and the use of equipment and tools. The students will practice the basic skills of tapering, bending, twisting, and flattening to make a fire hot rivet.
In the 3rd session they wil learn about types of steel and heat treatment. They will make drifts and punches and use them to punch a hole. The 4th session will be making a set of tongs for picking up hot steel. The 5th session will be on a more advanced skill of forge welding and the final session will be making their own hammer.
