Description
Creating Tall, Thin & Large Drop Vessels
Push your kilnforming practice into bold, sculptural territory in this intensive 6-day advanced workshop with glass artist Larry Pile. Focusing on both tall, elegant forms and larger, more expansive vessels, students will explore the full lifecycle of drop vessel creation—from concept to coldworked finish.
Through a combination of demonstrations, hands-on making, and in-depth discussion, participants will learn the “Drop Vessel Trifecta”: designing and building successful blanks, executing precise and dynamic kiln drops, and refining forms through coldworking techniques. Along the way, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of glass behavior, firing strategies, mold-making (including SilkeMat molds), and the nuanced differences between creating tall, thin versus large-scale vessels.
Expect a fast-paced, highly immersive experience with opportunities to experiment, problem-solve, and expand your design vocabulary. Students will complete multiple vessels and leave with both finished work and the technical confidence to continue exploring drop forms independently.
Best suited for intermediate to advanced glass artists with experience in fusing, mold use, and coldworking.
