Description
Creating Tall &Thin Drop Vessels
Push your kilnforming practice into bold, sculptural territory in this intensive 4-day advanced workshop with glass artist Larry Pile. Focusing on both tall, elegant forms, students will explore the full lifecycle of drop vessel creation—from concept to coldworked finish.
Through a dynamic combination of demonstrations, hands-on making, and in-depth discussion, participants will learn the “Drop Vessel Trifecta”:
1. Designing and Building: Construct successful, high-performing blanks tailored for dramatic drops
2. Execution: Learn how to execute precise and dynamic kiln drops, while understanding the nuances between tall and thin vessels.
3. Refining Forms: Master coldworking techniques to give your pieces a professional, gallery-ready finish
4. Advanced Mold-Making: Gain hands-on experience utilizing modern materials, including SilkeMat molds
Along the way, you will deepen your technical knowledge of glass behavior, firing strategies, and problem-solving to help expand your design vocabulary. You will complete multiple vessels, leaving with finished work and the technical confidence to continue exploring drop forms independently.
Best suited for intermediate to advanced glass artists with prior experience in fusing, mold use, and coldworking
