Description

Squatting Creatures: Handbuilding Non-Traditional Gargoyles 3-Day workshop

All skill levels are welcome in this program.

Bring your wildest creature creations to life – mythical beasts, fantastical animals, or abstract forms are all welcome.  Find inspiration in the iconic forms of traditional gargoyles, then let your imagination soar.  This workshop emphasizes freedom of expression and encourages you to create unique and personal creatures.  The instructor will guide you in bringing your imaginative creatures to life, encouraging expressive features and fostering your artistic vision.

The instructor will guide you through building a solid foundation for your creature.  You will carefully shape its body and define its unique features.  We’ll employ a traditional technique to hollow out your sculpture using a loop tool, ensuring even drying and a lightweight finished piece.  You’ll then add intricate details to bring your creature to life.

Because this is a 3-day workshop, we will not be glazing our pieces.  Shipping will be available at market cost of USPS for students needing to ship their fired bisque ware.

Students must bring: loop tools of different sizes, a needle tool, a wire tool, rubber ribs, a serrated rib, and any sculpting tools you’d like.

Materials fee: $25

Minimum age: 11.  15 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
