Description

In this one-day workshop, students will learn how to create their own sprig molds and practice using them.  The class will commence with a discussion on suitable materials for sprig making, undercuts, plaster mixing and application, and the artistic benefits of incorporating sprigs.

Each student will then select one or more objects to create a sprig mold from, utilizing personal items brought to the workshop.  The class will proceed with mold creation, followed by a cleanup and lunch break.

After the break, the instructor will guide students in examining and refining the molds.  The remaining time will be dedicated to practicing sprig making and testing the newly created molds.

Students will acquire the skills of mold making, plaster usage, and sprig molding.  The workshop will culminate in each student taking home a completed plaster mold for future sprig-making endeavors.

Students must bring:   Small and relatively flat items that would be good for making a sprig mold of (like buttons and broaches).  Bring at least 7 items so we can pick the one/ones that will work the best.  Be aware these items might be damaged by plaster, so please don’t bring anything you want to keep.
