Ann Gleason Teaches a Hand Building Pottery Class

AnnGleasonTryon Arts and Crafts School welcomes local potter and sculptor Ann Gleason as the instructor of a new Monday evening hand building pottery class. In Ann’s class, students will be taking slab-built forms to a new level of possibilities, along with further exploration of slip-work and other embellishment options done while clay is in the unfired, green ware state.  Altering basic forms, using found objects and molds, and extruded clay will also be explored.    New students willand Build move along swiftly covering the basics of each technique:  pinch, coil, soft-slab, as well as introducing many alternatives within each technique.

The class will start Monday April 1, 2013 from 6-9pm, and will meet for 6 weeks.

 

Ann Gleason student work pitcherThe instructor, Ann Gleason, a local well-known and accomplished artist, received her MFA in ceramics from the University of Utah.  She is a full-time professional potter; part time studio potter and part time teacher.  Ann serves as an adjunct instructor of Ceramics at Greenville Technical College and in the past with Converse College, Wofford College, and Spartanburg Art Center, Blue Ridge Community College and Tryon Arts & Crafts. Some of her pieces are on display in the gallery of Tryon Arts & Crafts.
