Wearable Art Show Opens in the Heritage Gallery

Wearable art showComing off of a successful fall Festival weekend on the grounds of Tryon Arts and Crafts School, a new exhibit is on display presently in the gallery.  Artists have contributed their best efforts in the area of body adornments in the form of art wearable, jewelry, and other personal accessories that enhance one’s image.

The show opened on Friday, October 18th with an artists’ reception and will continue until November 16.  The entries include handcrafted jewelry pieces some of which were made by students in the jewelry classes at the school and some are instructor’s work.  Many fiber artists have also entered their current pieces including Julie McIntyre, Diana Jackson and Christine Mariotti who are on staff.  Julie is a dually talented artist with works of metal fabricating and felted pieces on display.  The weaving group has contributed many colorful woven scarves and shawls.  Pieces on display are one of a kind and affordably priced, perfect for gift giving.

Diana Gurri’s vintage 1967 dress design is a special display.  The dress shows her work from the period when she studied at FIT in New York City and had a prize winning design exhibited in the school’s display window.  The black and white mini dress will bring back memories of GoGo boots and berets of the time.  Along with the dress is a drawing executed during her  illustration class.

A special event occurring during the course of the exhibit is a presentation by Nornny Gallo and Christine Mariotti.  The event is entitled “How to Look Young At Any Age,” and will take place at 2:00 pm on Saturday,  October 26 in the gallery.  Nornny is a hair stylist and beautician with a particular flair for making her clients update themselves with color, hair styling , make-up and accessories. She will share her secrets with others at  the presentation.  Christine Mariotti, scarf painting artist  , will help with scarf tying techniques.  Door prizes will be awarded to attendees along with an English tea.  For reservations to the event please call the school at 828-859-8382.  There is a small charge at the door for the event.
