Reminiscence Tea in the Afternoon on March 29

Tryon Arts and Crafts School invites the public to a Reminiscence Tea. The English style afternoon tea will take place on March 29 at 2:00 pm in the Heritage Crafts Gallery at Tryon Arts and Crafts, located at 373 Harmon Field Road, Tryon, NC.Teapots by Gray Huntoon, Michael Suttle and Ann Gleason

Open Road Coffee is providing the tea and special pastries. Dan Ferebee, a partner with Stan Yoder of Openroad Coffee, LLC in Tryon on North Trade St. will present his new brand of organic tea entitled “The Art of Tea” and he will be explaining how teas are brewed and their differences.

As a special feature of the afternoon tea, Robin A. Edgar, author of In My Mother’s Kitchen, will speak on reminiscing. As they sip their tea, attendees can take time to reflect on shared connections with friends and family. Robin will guide them through simple prompts to get in touch with memories to celebrate the times they shared together.

The cost of the Reminiscence Tea is $15.00 payable to Tryon Arts and Crafts School. Reservations can be made online, in person, or by phone at 828-859-8323.

The event that prompted the Reminiscence Tea is the exhibit in the Tryon Arts and Crafts Heritage Gallery entitled Hot Tea 2014. This show features artists’ interpretations of the world of teapots, tea services, table settings and anything relating to tea as an inspiration for an art form. There will be an artists’ reception on Friday, March 14 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and the show will run from March 14 through April 12, 2014.

April 5 is called a “Memory Necklace”. This workshop is a carry-over from the reminiscence tea and will be the construction of a personal piece of jewelry that incorporates the tokens and charms that participants have collected over the years. Julia McIntyre, workshop instructor, will demonstrate various construction techniques for assembling collage type jewelry. The workshop is open to anyone regardless if they have attended the tea, but if they do there is a discount offered for both events.
